ORIGINAL MUSIC

ORIGINAL MUSIC

In addition to being a huge music fan, I have tried my hand - over the years - in creating original music.
I've been super fortunate to have had the opportunity to play in some great bands with some fantastic friends and musicians.

Below are links to examples of music from each of the main bands that I have worked with.
Click on the song title to give a listen. Lyrics & music are by me unless notated otherwise.

Cheers!

MASQUE

"Together" (1985) - This was my first real original music band. We were 16 and worshipped at the alter of arena rock - especially Night Ranger, Journey, REO Speedwagon, etc.

Our 'big moment' was getting this track played on WSHE's local show - Miami's premier 80s rock station. We also won quite a few Battles of the Bands and earned a few gigs on the notorious 'strip' in Ft Lauderdale during spring break.
I played keyboards & sang backing vocals in Masque. This track was written with my good friend Chris Monaco, who sadly passed away recently. (the guy in the video photo to the right was our manager - and this must've been the only band photo that survived - definitely the 80s - HAHA!!)

CORAL GABLES

"Thirty Pieces Of Silver" (1989) - My college band, Coral Gables - which existed in Miami between the years of 87-91 - represents my '15 minutes'. We were four alternative/indie/punk fans who started off playing covers for parties, but soon graduated to playing pretty much every S FL club that existed in the late 80s/early 90s - including The Cameo Theater, Churchill's Hideaway, The Kitchen, & Washington Square. We got the chance to open for some of our favorites (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, Let's Active, etc) and even staged a few little tours on the east coast. We were also fortunate to share some club dates with our friends The Mavericks before they moved to Nashville and blew-up.

I was super proud (around 1990, I believe) to be selected by Miami's News Times as the 'Best Local Songwriter', while "Thirty Pieces Of Silver" was selected as the 'Best Local Song'.
I played bass with Coral Gables and we released our music on an independent, self-titled cassette.

Robert Ankrom / "Exit Day" (1990) - When Coral Gables broke-up I had been writing some new songs that I hoped would push in the direction of music I was more interested in at the time. This song was one of the first I wrote in this new style and was recorded live at The University of Miami's Gusman Concert Hall with a gathered group of talented musician friends. "Guenevere Is Mine" & "Skip The Summer" were recorded live at the same session.

THE MOE GREENS

"She Builds Monsoons" (2005) - Relocating to North Carolina, I was super lucky to connect with a quintet of amazing musicians that would remain life-long friends. Focused on Americana rock, we featured a range of originals and covers and played quite a few clubs throughout NC, with a focus on Greensboro & Winston-Salem.
I played guitar, keyboards, and sang lead & backing vocals with The Moe Greens and we released our music on an independent, self-titled CD.

Robert Ankrom / "Picasso Postcard" (2017) - I have always been a big fan of story-telling in songwriting and I think this is my most successful attempt on that front. Heavily influenced by my favorite in this particular songwriting approach, Bruce Springsteen.
